Flexibility Context

There was a Gartner presentation at work today, and it spoke about what employers might need to allow for in the future post-COVID-19.  Flexibility was the keyword employees were looking for in a job.

It makes sense, with COVID-19, workplaces had to become flexible with employee attendance and achieving outcomes.  My workplace, as part of “COVID proofing”, our office, continues to operate on a 50% attendance rate.  That’s 50% work from home, and 50% are in the office, except one day a week when we all come in for team meetings.  This approach is for disaster management; when or if COVID or the like strikes, only half of the workforce will be affected at any one time.

Another factor is being able to ditch the suit in favour of jeans and a t-shirt.  Something comfortable.  I guess my wish for returning the double-breasted suits with hats from the Golden Years of the Hollywood era is gone 😂.  Not that I know what it was like, but the suits and clothes look so classy.

The flexibility of working from home provides an excellent work-life balance.  It’s so easy to participate in a meeting while turning on the dishwasher, washing machine or even hang up the clothes if you’re close enough for the range on you’re headset.

Anyway, I couldn’t find an article by the Gartner group on the findings presented today, but I found a summary of the Future of Work Trends Post COVID-19 in the workplace, which you might find interesting.

Flexibility Analysis

Carryover Cards

Three cards carried over from yesterday; Trust moved from Feelings to Future Energy, The Master moved from Goal to Others’ Views, and Projections moved from Now to Outcome.

Cross

Going with the Flow was in the Now influenced by Silence.  In the context of the day, it’s about flexibility and taking opportunities as they present themselves.  The options will work out if I keep my mind still with Silence, making it easier to Go with the Flow.

The Goal of the day was Laziness – I both love and hate this card.  Today it means, taking the opportunity to rest and maybe learn something new at the risk of not getting on top of anything new into the workload.

In the Recent Past is the card of working together for a common cause, We are the World, and further back in the Distant Past was the card of Moment to Moment, which imitates the Going with the Flow card.

Hmmm.  We are the World equals flexibility around new workplace requirements for and by employees.  Moment to Moment is when the whole of Australia had to become flexible and embrace the new challenges provided by COVID-19 at each opportunity.

Going with the Flow radiates Trust into Future Energy.

Base

By Going with the Flow, you get an opportunity to look at things in a different light.  Casting a different light on a situation brings about Feelings of Awareness.

Others’ Views is The Master moving from yesterday’s Goal position; it is almost possible to interpret this movement as the Goal accomplished.  Except it’s how others view me, not how I feel.

Hopes & Fears has the card of Sharing.  With the information on the new world and its workplace, I hope for a more casual workplace, but at the same time, I fear losing the existing workplace is scary.

Projections are the Outcome position and have moved from the Now position yesterday; in this position, as opposed to where it was yesterday, I’m likely to be putting my spin on the feedback on the new workplace.  Usually, my observations are correct, but my conclusions sometimes miss something in the translation.
